Greg Thacker is a civil trial lawyer who began working for The Nurse Lawyer, P.A. in early 2017. He litigates all types of injury cases, including car accident, commercial truck accident, general negligence, defective products and wrongful death cases.
Greg was born and raised in Clearwater, Florida and has a long line of Florida attorneys in his family including his great grandfather, grandfather and grandmother who were all attorneys in Kissimmee, Florida. His father and brother are also established attorneys in Pinellas County, Florida.
Greg graduated from Clearwater High School in 1998. He attended college at the University of Central Florida where he graduated with a B.A. in English Literature and a minor in Psychology. After college, he attended law school at Stetson University College of Law. While at Stetson, Greg received the top grade in several of his courses including Real Property, Trusts and Estates, Evidence and Trial Advocacy. He was awarded the Melvyn Trute P.A. Trust award and graduated Cum Laude in 2006. While still in law school, Greg interned at the Pinellas County State Attorney’s office where he was able to take misdemeanor cases to trial before a jury prior to graduating from law school and passing the Florida Bar Exam.
Immediately after law school, Greg was hired to be a prosecutor for the Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office. While there, his duties included being a lead trial attorney, traffic court prosecutor, felony division prosecutor, and child abuse/domestic violence prosecutor. He was awarded the R.l.D. 2008 Top DUI Prosecutor Award. He handled thousands of criminal cases from misdemeanor to first degree murder cases and gained extensive trial experience in taking over 45 criminal cases to trial.
After three years as a prosecutor, Greg left the State Attorney’s Office to go into private practice where his focus was the practice of family law. He continued his experience of regularly being in the courtroom as lead counsel on numerous family law cases including complex child custody, divorce, paternity, injunction, business valuation, asset valuation and dependency related matters. He handled numerous multi-million dollar divorce cases with highly complex family law and business related issues. Additionally, he personally handled and won several appeals before the 2nd District Court of Appeals including giving oral argument before the appellate court. Several of the family law judges in the sixth judicial circuit appointed Greg to act as a pro bono Guardian Ad Litem on behalf of children involved in highly contentious family law matters where he acted as a voice for the child and made recommendations to the court regarding various child related issues.
After practicing family law for almost 8 years, Greg decided he wanted to invest his efforts in a new area of law. He always had an interest in being a litigator in the area of personal injury law so he contacted Maryann Furman, who he first met a decade before while he was a prosecutor and she was a public defender, to discuss personal injury law and Maryann decided to bring him onto her team.
When Greg is not practicing law he enjoys spending time with his Wife of 14 years, their two daughters and their dog, cats, rabbit and foster squirrels.
