Megan Cummings started working at The Nurse Lawyer her first year in law school and is now a partner in the firm. She handles all types of personal injury cases, including car accident cases, commercial truck accident cases, general negligence actions, defective products cases, and wrongful death.

Megan has wanted to be an attorney since her childhood, and has a passion for representing clients by helping them get the best possible outcome. Megan was born and raised in a small town in Illinois, and after high school, came to Florida to attend the University of Tampa, where she majored in criminology. While attending the University of Tampa, she made the Dean’s list 3 years in a row, and graduated with honors.

After college Megan attended law school at Stetson University College of Law. While there, Megan received several awards for outstanding grades, including the Whele Award for highest grade in trial advocacy, and the Doyle award for the top grade in negotiation and mediation. Megan also won the top grade awards in secured transactions and business entities.

Aside from work in the classroom Megan also gained experience, by participating in several internships including: the Federal Judicial Internship, where she interned under Judge Porcelli; the In-House Counsel internship, where she worked under corporate law attorneys at Bankers Financial Corporation; and the Juvenile Justice Initiative Internship, where she assisted in defending juveniles in the criminal justice system. Megan graduated cum laude from Stetson in 2014.

During law school, Megan reached out to Maryann Furman in order to fulfill her pro-bono requirements, wherein each student is required to do 60 hours of free legal work for clients in need. Maryann was happy to have Megan’s help with the many clients Maryann helps on a pro-bono basis. That relationship led to Megan getting a position as a law clerk at The Nurse Lawyer, P.A. during her last year of law school.

During her time as a law clerk she assisted Maryann with the litigation of all types of personal injury cases. It was then that she realized the great satisfaction that comes from helping the injured fight against insurance companies. Megan passed the bar exam right after graduation and started as an attorney at The Nurse Lawyer, P.A. immediately thereafter.

Megan Cummings is licensed to practice law in Florida in both state and federal courts, and is an active member of several professional legal associations.
